Belt buckle, Roman and Visigothic necropolis of El Pla de l’Horta (Sarrià de Ter, Gironès), Visigothic period, 6th century AD. Archaeology Museum of Catalonia, Girona.

The necropolis in El Pla de l’Hort has two phases: The oldest part (3rd-5th centuries AD) are those of the necropolis of the Roman villa of El Pla de l’Horta, but the later tombs (6th century AD) from the height of the Visigothic period, have not been associated with any known dwelling.

The Visigoth buckle corresponds to a kind popular during this period, made of different materials. The most spectacular are made of gold and precious stones. This specimen is made of bronze covered with gold foil, and the inner decoration of the shield, in the form of a mosaic, is made of fine sheets of coloured glass.
