The urns contained the cremated remains of the body. Once laid down, they were plugged with a cap, and all was buried in a grave. Accompanying vessels and bronze pieces could also be placed next to the urn to complement the grave goods. These may have been more or less ornate, depending on the age, gender and social status of the deceased. The presence of the incineration urns reflects a change in the burial ritual, which had been inhumation until that time.
