Funeral lauda with mosaic from the late Roman era, first quarter of the 5th century. Archaeology Museum of Catalonia, Empúries.

Funeral lauda dating from the first quarter of the 5th century found inside the medieval church of Santa Margarida (outside the walls of the ancient Greek and Roman cities of Empúries).

The lauda was part of a privileged tomb which was made up of a rectangular stone sarcophagus with a sloped stone lid, which was made by carving it out of natural rock. The tomb was sealed with this polychrome mosaic lauda which has three lines of a Christian funeral inscription in the centre: “[…] Bishop (?), rests [here]. Blessed are those who find joy in Christ. He lived more or less 60 years”.
