Foundry mould, Bronze Age. Manresa County Museum.

These stone moulds were used to smelt bronze. An axe, two punches or needles, an ingot and another item were yielded from it. This mould dates from the late Bronze Age and is a testimony of local metallurgy in El Bages. The process required two pits: the first to separate the metal from the minerals, and the second to smelt the bronze alloy (copper and tin). Once they were liquified, it was poured into the stone mould to yield the piece.
