The process that Josep Mestres Cabanes (Manresa, 1898-1990) followed when creating his set designs was always the same.
First he made a complete, detailed sketch. Then he coloured it and added a few figures so he could study the proportions. After that he talked with the head of stage machinery to identify any problems that might arise. He then took the sketch and made it into a kind of set model in order to study any mistakes that the project might have, find the right lighting, and correct and improve it. This process concluded with the approval from the people in charge of the opera and the corporation of the Gran Teatre del Liceu opera house.
