The Gegants Vells (Old Giants) of Manresa are among the oldest in Catalonia. Both figures have arms and faces carved of wood and painted, and they are held up with a six-legged armature made of wood and metal. They are documented as having been built in 1840. Since then, their external appearance has changed several times, rendering them as counts, Turks, Ottomans or kings. Since 1982, lighter-weight replicas are actually carried in the festivities.
