The Montblanc and County Museum-Archive Association was founded in 1958 to house the museum’s initial collection. In 1978 the first refurbishment and reinstallation of the collection was carried out. In 1982 an agreement was signed with the Government of Catalonia under which the name was changed to the Conca de Barberà County Museum. The agreement included the establishment of a management consortium and a museographic project covering the whole county.
With the aim of bringing together the testimonials that make up the history of La Conca, the museum takes into account the different branches the county’s culture.
Through different monographic sections, the museum’s objectives are research, study and preservation, as well as to provide information and raise awareness of the diverse local areas, including the rock art of the Prades Mountains, Els Llorac Castle in Solivella, watermills, ethnology, archaeology, the visual arts and an exhaustive compendium of the history of the Conca de Barberà.
