A Roman amphora designed for transport on maritime trade routes. Museum and Municipal Archive of Calella.

This Roman clay amphora was used for maritime trade in an area of the Mediterranean where goods were constantly exchanged. The amphora was designed for transport, with large handles and a narrow base to make storage on board easier. Ceramic amphorae were mass-produced, and many were recycled for the construction of roof tiles or water channels. This piece at the Calella Museum is in very good condition.
