Pla de l'Estany has few medieval archaeological sites that have been properly excavated. One of them, fortunately, is the tower at Espasens, a small fortification in Fontcoberta. It was completely excavated between 1988-1989, with the support of the Museum, and many interesting artefacts from the 14th and 15th centuries were found, such as bronze objects, bone dice, iron tools, coins and pottery for use in cooking or tableware, such as this blue glazed bowl.
