Collection

The Apel·les Fenosa Museum conserves the artist’s original sculptures in terracotta and bronze.

The Apel·les Fenosa Museum conserves the artist’s original sculptures in terracotta and bronze.

Opened to the public in 2002, the Apel·les Fenosa Museum is installed on the ground floor of a Renaissance palace that Fenosa (Barcelona,1899 - Paris,1988) purchased in 1957. The various rooms where the permanent collection is exhibited gather original sculptures in terracotta and other works in bronze. These pieces allow the observer to discover the career of the sculptor, with his characteristic metamorphosis. Portraits of poets and leading figures of the post-war Paris, such as Jean Cocteau, Jean Marais, Paul and Nusch Éluard and Jules Supervielle, and Catalan friends such as Joan Perucho can also be seen.

The presence of works in terracotta, plaster and bronze allows the visitor to understand the procedures used in bronze sculpture and casting methods, which convert the visit to the Museum into an interesting lesson on this technique.

Apel·les Fenosa Museum's primary mission is to protect, document and promote the work of the artist. It preserves, therefore, Fenosa’s original sculptures, as well as a documentary collection intended for all kinds of audiences. It also organizes temporary exhibitions and various cultural events set around Fenosa’s life and other contemporary artists.

At the same time, the halls of temporary exhibitions are devoted to the works of the sculptor's generation and friends, be they French or Catalan, such as the recent displays dedicated to Josep Granyer, Manuel Humbert, Antoni Clavé, Xavier Valls, Paul Éluard, Giacometti or Tristan Tzara.
