This piece does not have a traditional stretcher frame, but rather the support is cut out expressly, giving it the sensation of being in suspension, as if the lips had stayed in the air when the rest of the body had disappeared.
The unmistakeable shape of female lips in bright red give the piece its name: Rouge baiser (Red Kiss).
Starting in the early part of the 1960s, Stämpfli did various series of works depicting details of the ways of life of men and women, evoking luxury, leisure and the glamour of Hollywood movies.
