Bernard Rancillac (Paris, 1931) is one of the founders of narrative figuration.
In this work a wheel is present (an industrial object), as a symbol of the turning of knowledge, and as a reference to Oriental understanding. The large spoon could represent the serving up of knowledge in spoonfuls.
In this work Oriental spiritual elements are blended together, in allusion to how Western culture trivializes them. This piece is thus a counter-positioning of East and West.
