Running Dogs, by Henri Cueco (Uzerche, 1929), takes on its meaning through the repetition of these fragments of running dogs with their threatening appearance. With their bright red tongues hanging out, they do not look like household pets. The colour red, with its suggestion of erotic passion, as well as being a warm, blood tone, has here a clearly menacing intention.
The artist painted a thematic series that this work is part of, after a dream of being chased by dogs.
