The twister was responsible for making the final yarn of the spinning process, depending on the thickness that had been determined with the client.

In the first part of the twisting process, the yarn produced by the mule-jenny, called the head, joined with other strands wires or cords (two or three) that were crossed and coiled on a metal cone. The second part of the process was to twist the crossed strands to form the single, thicker yarn with which the skeins were made.
