Jordi Pericot progressively moved away from the art world to concentrate on his facets as teacher and theorist. He felt that he had exhausted kinetic art and could continue by taking up teaching and design theory at the university.

His final departure from artistic circles in 1984 was marked by his last work as a professional artist: the painting MeRdA was a direct attack on the mercantile side of art, using a sequence of six self-portraits that taken together pronounce the word merda (shit).
