The Lifeguard Brigade

Lifeguard boathouse Old lifeguard station built in the 19th century.

Lifeguard boathouse Old lifeguard station built in the 19th century.

Section devoted to narrating a period of our 19th century history, in which a group of people organised themselves altruistically to save the lives of those who faced adversity and danger at sea. Inside the Bohera lifeboat (1897) is preserved which the volunteer fishermen who formed the lifeguard brigade used when storms and shipwrecks called for their action. Other tools needed when it came to rescuing other fishermen and sailors included lifeline launchers, buoyancy aids and first aid kits. This constitutes a testament to the town's seafaring past and tells of the dangers of the sea and the volunteer service at the service of others. This is a unique heritage collection of original materials at their original location.
