Castell Cartoixa de Vallparadís

Modern period (blue)

Elements from the castle-palace of Terrassa.

Elements from the castle-palace of Terrassa.

This section begins with some of the elements preserved from the ancient castle-palace of Terrassa. We may contemplate a sculpted stone window frame formerly belonging to the Muntanyans family, keepers of the castle in the 15th century, and a reconstruction of the upper gallery of the cloister, with bases, columns, capitals, arches, floor tiles and clay ceiling tiles. The section also features the oldest stone coat of arms of the town of Terrassa and the original Gothic marker cross from the Creu Gran. Among the other items from the modern period, there is a glass pitcher, a pharmacy pot, a stirrup, a begging bowl, and a five-ral coin from Terrassa. The next room contains religious items from the old Monastery of Sant Francesc, and sculptures and panels from the altarpieces of the Seu d’Ègara, from the baroque altarpiece by Nicolau Travé and the neoclassical ones of Sant Cristòfor , Sant Sebastià and Sant Roc, among others. They are isolated pieces, because the large altarpieces of the modern period were destroyed during the Civil War.
