This armchair of jacaranda wood is one of a set of furniture pieces made by Pere Sabater i Armengol for the front room of Casa Alegre de Sagrera. The set consists of a large settle with a mirror, two armchairs, eight chairs and a centre table. It is a solid type of furniture, eclectic in style, although the oblique supports feature an original touch that pre-dates the forms of Catalan Modernisme.

The blend of old and new styles was a general feature of Art Nouveau interiors.
