Vilanova Carnival Processions is one of the set of sixteen paintings that decorated the Foment Vilanoví café. It belongs to the last period in the career of Joaquim Mir (Barcelona, 1873 - Vilanova i la Geltrú, 1940), who lived in Vilanova from 1922 to 1940. Probably painted from a balcony, it depicts the Carnival Sunday processions, with a panoramic view of Plaça de les Cols, where the battle of sweets took place at the beginning of the 20th century. A mature painting, it is characterised by agile brush strokes and lively colours, which capture the hullabaloo of the festivities.
