Minerva

Bust with a representation of the goddess Minerva, 2nd century AD, white marble, 44.5 × 21.6 × 25.5 cm

Bust with a representation of the goddess Minerva, 2nd century AD, white marble, 44.5 × 21.6 × 25.5 cm

This statue would have formed part of the decor of the Schola of the Collegium Fabrum of Tarraco, seat of the corporation of building workers.
It represents the goddess Minerva wearing a Corinthian helmet. This work is a model of classicism, a variation of a Greek prototype still unknown to us. The presence of this statue in the decoration of the building corresponds to Minerva’s status as tutelary goddess of craftsmen.
