Sculpture representing Bacchus holding out a cup, mid 2nd century AD,- white marble, 120 cm

A statue of Bacchus, inspired  that of Praxiteles’s Satyr holding out a cup  , from a private domus in the residential area of Tarraco.

This is one of the few statues preserved from this sector of the city, all of which are characterised by especially meticulous execution.
Mythological sculptures commonly served as decoration in villas and urban homes in the Roman world.
