Manuel Cano de Castro (San Jose, Costa Rica, 1891 - Paris, 1959) studied in Barcelona. He was part of what was called the “Torres Garcia School of Decoration." The Abelló Museum has a series of ten drawings that were surely part of the same booklet, and one of these drawings, Paisatge amb vaques, represents the work in question. These drawings correspond to a simple art of flat colours, the result of the artist’s personal and decorative primitivism.
