Cara d’home, Josep Maria de Sucre i de Grau, 1962, wax on paper, 69 × 43 cm

Josep Maria de Sucre (Barcelona, 1986-1969) was a well-educated artist who was an art critic, writer and painter. His work can be connected with Art Brut. The use of wax is the most common means he used to make many of the early expressionist portraits he made almost instinctively, which reflected the anguish and tension of the characters portrayed.
