Ceramic amphora, 1st centuries BC to AD

Roman amphora of light clay, practically intact, of the Laietani I type. This type of amphora was designed to contain liquids, preferably wine, and to be transported by ship. The considerable number of amphorae extracted from the town’s subsoil and the discovery of related structures (cellars, kilns, presses, anchorages, etc.) indicate an economy founded on the production and sale of wine, at least in the period between the 1st centuries BC and AD.
