This work is the most important in the museum, and was made by an anonymous artist know as the Master of Cabestany. A highly accomplished sculptor who was active through the second half of the twelfth century, the Master of Cabestany worked in Tuscany, Languedoc, Catalonia and Navarre. This relief was part of the Eastern gate of the Benedictine monastery at Sant Pere de Rodes, in Girona, and is considered one of the finest works by this artist and his studio.
