Man at Prayer, a mural from the church of Sant Quirze in Pedret (Berguedà), end of the tenth century or beginning of the eleventh

When the Romanesque wall paintings of the church of Sant Quirze in Pedret were removed for safekeeping elsewhere, there came to light the remains of an even earlier fresco, dating from the pre-Romanesque period. There were two fragments of this fresco left, one on each side of the window in the central apse. One of these fragments is known as The Man at Prayer. It shows a male figure with his arms wide open as if praying, inside a double circle set off with a zigzag frieze. Above these circles there is a flying bird with open wings.
