During archaeological excavations of Castell de Pijoert’s main tower, this small cannon and the set of cannon balls came to light. It is a bronze, muzzle-loaded canon for shooting small projectiles at long range. This one would have been fixed to a wooden base. Once it was primed with the gunpowder and the cannonball, it would have been fired by lighting the fuse which set off the gunpowder through a hole at the end of the cannon. The cannonballs were made of iron or stone.
