Catalonia Railway Museum Vilanova i la Geltrú

Main building (audio-visual and library room)

The Museum service building was the last building to be constructed. It houses the visitor reception area, a family area and various collections of railway items. It was built in the 1970s with the purpose of cooperative store, in other words, as a supermarket for railway employees, where they could purchase food and household staples at lower prices than from the market and thus complement the low wages that workers received on the railways. On the top floor we find the library, which holds over 4,000 volumes in addition to a collection of maps and plans and also a photographic archive with more than 7,000 images. Also the audio-visual projection room is located there, where we recommend you seeing the 35 minute documentary before heading outside. The presentation is shown at fixed times, so you need to ask the staff at reception beforehand if you wish to do the guided visit first and see it at the end of the tour. A section devoted to the world of cinema and the railway and the administrative offices complete this space.
