Fragment of a glass vessel with the inscription «Petrus». Mataró Museum. Can Serra.

Fragment of a glass vessel, perhaps a chalice, found in 2008 during the excavations of Can Cruzate (Iluro). It shows a scene engraved on the outside of the piece which depicts a bearded man flanked by two star-like symbols and the name PETRVS, which identifies the figure as the apostle Peter.

The scene depicted can be related to an iconographic theme that was characteristic of early Christian art: the traditio legis, that is, the distribution of the law. It shows Christ, represented by a youthful ephoebus, usually seated on a throne, distributing the new law to the apostle Peter, who is standing to his left.
