The Mas del Hierro 2 grave goods from the La Carrova villa (Amposta). Terres de l’Ebre Museum.

This is a set of votive items from the Mas del Hierro 2 grave at the La Carrova villa (Amposta), consisting of an amphora for wine, an oil lamp with a central decoration of a sphinx on bones and a border of vertical bars, and a fine-walled round vessel, all dating from the high Roman imperial period. This grave offering was laid in the tomb and enabled the deceased to participate in the world of the living. The wine and the cup formed part of the ritual funeral feasting, while the lamp was asscociated with the role of light in the transition to the afterlife.
