Close-up of a pantry where you can see different ways that food was conserve.

Today everyone has a fridge at home to store and conserve food. However, they did not exist even 100 years ago, yet conserving food was as necessary as it is today.

For many years there was a wide variety of natural conservation methods that allowed the life of food to be extended. Drying, preserves and jams, conserves in vinegar and salting, among other methods, are just some of the procedures that allowed a family to be fed all year round.
