The brazier is a concave metal container where embers are put to heat homes or rooms. There were braziers of different sizes, and they could be either stationary or portable.
Traditionally, brazier models such as the one displayed here were carried to school by children from wealthy families so they could heat themselves.
The poorer families used braziers self-made from recycled materials. It was very common to use a rectangular metal box (usually a quince box), which they pierced and added a wire as a handle.
