The Museu de la Noguera conserves the archaeological and historical heritage of the city of Balaguer and fosters research based on this so as to integrate itself more fully with its hinterland. The museum’s principal curatorial aim is to be a tool for the better understanding of the roots of the long-lasting coexistence between the three religious cultures that defined the history of Al-Andalus: the Muslim, the Christian and the Jewish. The Al-Andalus and feudal heritage of the region of la Noguera, and in particular of the city of Balaguer, makes our collection one of the most important from this period in Catalonia, not only for the quantity but also for the quality of the objects the museum holds. As such, it is an unparalleled frame of reference for an understanding of the history of Al-Andalus in Catalonia.
The museum coordinates a range of activities in the city and its wider region, through field research, the documentation and conservation of monuments, and a range of educational programmes.
