Square piano made by Johannes Zumpe in 1776. Originally from Germany, Zumpe settled in London where he opened a factory to manufacture pianos that included the mechanisms designed by his teacher Gottfried Silbermann. He was the first to product the English square piano, which sounded like a harpsichord. This example has been restored to be played.
