Silver salpasser, with an 18th century awl and vessal used to bless the homes in L'Escala. Anchovy and Salt Museum. L’Escala.

 

Silver instrument donated by the parish of Sant Pere de L'Escala, used to bless all the houses in the town with salt. The Salpàs ceremony was carried out on Easter Monday, when the priests, followed by altar boys, would blessed the entrances to all the houses with water and salt to ward off evil spirits and diseases.
