One of the most iconic animals in Lake Banyoles is the otter, a mammal that indicates high-quality water. In the mid 20 th century the species disappeared from the lake, but in the early 21st century it has recovered thanks to the reforestation of the Fluvià river, and so it has returned to Banyoles.

We are not sure where the specimen shown in the Lake Exhibition is from, although it is notable for the excellent work of the taxidermist who prepared it.
