Sant Pere de Rodes is an ancient Benedictine monastery on the mountain of Verdera, 520 metres above sea level. The monastery’s period of splendour dates from the 10th century. In the 12th and 13th centuries it was one of the most important centres of spiritual, political and financial power, capable of considerably extending its area of influence and of creating important works of art, such as the portal by the Master of Cabestany.
