Left and Right Hands of Julio Antonio

Lefts and Right Hands of Julio Antonio, Julio Antonio, 1911.

Lefts and Right Hands of Julio Antonio, Julio Antonio, 1911.

To make them as realistic as possible, Julio Antonio made a mould of his own hands to use as those of the injured hero of the Monument to the Heroes.

The sculptor pressed forcefully into a piece of damp clay to represent the action of grasping a kind of dagger with his right hand and with his left hand part of the robe hanging down his back. This testimony shows us something of the physical appearance of the sculptor.
