Ca Batistó. Bourgeois Modernity and Literary Modernisme

Presentation of the exhibition in the Grand Hall of Ca Batistó.

Presentation of the exhibition in the Grand Hall of Ca Batistó.

The manor house of Ca Batistó hosts an interactive presentation which takes us into the private lives of a bourgeois family of the early 20th century.

The first floor shows how technological advances and the new mentality of the times also transformed life and comfort within the home. It is comprised of the more private quarters of the house, which still retain their original appearance, such as the bedroom, the kitchen, the bathroom, etc. It is an ideal place to speak of the bourgeois modernity and the history of the building and those who lived there. You can listen to the music of the era, see pictures and elegant portraits, discover the changes in personal hygiene and how they cooked...

In addition, at the beginning of the 20th century some rooms were added on to the building, such as a pleasant, sunny gallery: the old printing press La Saura, owned by the editor and printer from Alcover, Cosme Vidal. It is an exhibition area with its own manner of speaking which describes the intellectuality of the era and of literary Modernisme of the area of Camp de Tarragona, particularly in relation to the figure of the teacher and promoter, Cosme Vidal, better known by the pseudonym of Josep Aladern.
