Multicolour bed from Olot, 1740-1750

The Olot bed is in itself a type of Catalan furniture from the second quarter of the 18th century.

The bed at the MATBC seems to have come from Llinars del Vallés, from the home of Tomàs Balvey’s mother. The Virgin Mary is portrayed, and on the crown of the head is the figure of St. Thomas. The whole outline of the piece is edged by a strip of pure gold.

Multicolour heads were characteristics of the so-called llits d’Olot, but they were also made on the Vic Plain and in the Maresme and Cerdanya counties, Valencia and Barcelona.
