The museum is named after its founder, Tomàs Balvey, a Noucentista collector and the last of a long line of pharmacists documented in Cardedeu since the 17th century.
The Tomàs Balvey Museum Archive Cardedeu (MATBC) consists of several collections, but the most unique element is the ancient rural Balvey family pharmacy, one of the oldest in Europe. The set consists of the original furniture from 1780 and contains more than two hundred imperial-style ceramic jars from 1827.
The museum tour of MATBC revolves around collecting, the pharmacy and the trade of the apothecaries, and is completed with the museum garden, which is devoted to medicinal plants and contains species with medicinal uses, a kind of outdoor exhibition hall that complements the central theme of the museum: welbeing, health and remedies.
The MATBC has more than a hundred years of history and a solid career behind it.
