Sabre-toothed tigers (Homotherium latidens) are the most characteristic animal fossil from Incarcal, Crespià (1.3 to 0.75 million years ago). Several skulls and jaws of this species were found, which makes Incarcal one of the best paleontological sites in Europe to study. These carnivores lived alongside large hyenas (Pachycrocuta brevirostris) and large herbivores such as southern mammoth (Archidiskodon meridionalis) and the European hippopotamus (Hippopotamus antiquus).
