The Historic Botanical Garden, a little treasure among the gardens of Barcelona, is nestled in the site of two old quarry pits in the Foixarda sector of Montjuïc, behind the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC).
Because it is enclosed by steep slopes and situated on Montjuïc's shady side, cold air accumulates at its lowest levels. Temperatures can be four degrees colder here than those in higher parts of the garden, favouring the growth of Euro-Siberian plant species typical of colder climates.
