"This canvas is a tribute to the peasants of my land, who are a symbol of my country."

In Pagès català al clar de lluna we once again find two leitmotivs in Miró’s oeuvre: the land (personified in the figure of the peasant) and the night (the moonlight).

The farmer wears the colour of the night and the sky takes on the colour of the fields. Moreover, the moon, which here has the cool tone that Miró normally gives it, seems to perhaps indicate the depiction of a sickle.
